Hellfire Caves

West Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, UK

The entrance to the famed Hellfire Caves in West Wycombe. The caves are an extensive network of tunnels and chambers excavated in the 1750s by Sir Francis Dashwood to provide work for unemployed farm workers following a succession of harvest failures. He founded the Hellfire Club who are reputed to have held occult meetings in the caves. As a result, the history of the caves are shrouded in mystery and controversy.
